Years ago I rented an old house that sat way back off the road in the woods, soon after living there every night I would hear a baby cry, it was coming from outside, it got so bad that I couldn't sleep, and had a hard time going to work, so one day on my off day I decided to explore the woods, my nephew, my parents and myself went out and looked, there deep in the woods was an old collapsed house, and beside it was a small mound, which looked like a small fresh grave, my crazy nephew was poking at it with a stick, you could see what looked like part of a flannel shirt sticking out the bottom of the mound, he jabbed the stick in the mound really hard, and something started oozing out, they all screamed and ran, I called the police, they came and dug up the mound, it was a baby, which was found to have been dead for over a month, but because it was in the winter, it was still fresh, the cause of death or the person responsible for it was never found. The baby was given a wonderful funeral and I never heard the cries again. We soon moved, because my husband couldn't handle what happened there. God bless that baby boy! May he rest in peace!

My parents house is haunted. From the ground floor, you can hear footsteps of someone above you when no one is upstairs, and from upstairs, you can hear furniture being moved around when no one is downstairs! Several people (even those that have not heard that strange things happen in our house) have seen a woman walking down the stairs in the house, and also have heard a man talking to them. Things also get misplaced a lot- it tends to be remotes e.g. air conditioners / tv remotes will go missing, and then will turn up in a huge pile in an obscure cupboard! I have even felt someone move my leg in my sleep (it woke me up), and will not sleep alone there! In the tv room, there is a storage room located behind the tv screen, and the door that leads to it is next to the screen. While watching tv, the door will open automatically several times (this cannot be explained by wind as you have to turn the knob in order to get the door to open! And i have tried to push the door from various angles to see if the latch is faulty, and it is not.)The house was built on an empty plot of land, and we have no history of the land. I am just glad i don't live there anymore!

Come on down to North Carolina. We have them from the coast to the mountains.

Check out Wilmington, Fayetteville, the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill), the Triad (Greensboro-High Point-Winston Salem), and Asheville.

That should get you started.

I'll throw in one from Fort Bragg for you--the home of the 82nd Airborne Division.

Supposedly the skies above one of the drop zones are haunted by the hapless spirit of a World War II paratrooper who yells "Help me!" at those who see him. Who he is or why he's hanging out above the DZ is anyone's guess.

For what it's worth, I've known more than my fair share of members of the 82nd--my first husband was airborne and so is one of my sons--and no one I've asked has ever encountered this ghost. Or, if they did--they won't admit to it!
