I was wondering what could be wrong with my computer.I have a compaq windows xp and after typing for a while the words do not show up on the screen and I have to sit and wait after typing for them to appear. Then my hard drive begins making a loud noise that sounds kind of like a vaccuum cleaner. The longer I type the slower it gets until it seems the words take forever to appear on the screen. If I turn my computer off and let it rest a minute the problem is gone when I turn it back on.It's really frustrating because the more I turn it off to fix it the sooner it starts happening again.Any suggestions?

You probably have too many programs running at once. You'll see a whole bunch of programs that are running in the background by opening the task manager. Some of those programs are also shown next to your clock. Close down whatever programs you don't need and it should help. You may also want to think about increasing the amount of RAM on your computer. More RAM allows you to have more programs running at the same time. The cost can run anywhere from about $35 to $200 on average, depending in what you'd need in order to upgrade.

check your computer for a viruses or you may have allot of things installed in it which is using up resources, what you can try doing is pressing the "CTRL ALT and DELETE" to bring up the windows task manager at the top are a few tabs, labeled applications, processes, performance, networking, and users. click on the one that says performance and you should see a scrolling line chart this shows how much of the cpu is being used as time passes on the side should be cpu usage on the rite side at the top and cpu history on the left of that which should be scrolling to the left. and to other charts labeled pf usage and page file usage history, anyway i will try to keep it simple look at the cpu usage and if it is hi like 100% percent then you have a few things more than likely working and using up cpu resources, you can then click on the tab at the top labeled processes and it will show you what is running for the most part things like explorer and what not and how much resources it is using you can turn off the things you don't need, by click n on it and then clicking end process down at the bottom or right clicking on the e things you don't need and clicking end process tree. now i don't recommend you turn off every thing just things you know you don't need. another thing you can do to check to see what's working is click applications which should show what applications you are running such as msn messenger explorer and what not. now there may be some stealth programs or apps running on your computer which wont show up, so i recommend a virus scan and also decrementing your hard drive. if you need more info on that contact me. it may be add ware on your computer or some corrupt software but it sounds like a issue where something is over working your processor. if all else fails there is one more very drastic step you can take but that one is a last ditch effort so i wont mention that.

longshot, yet... is there an sd card or exterior not straightforward force plugged in? if so eliminate them and attempt rebooting. if not, purely get a clean not straightforward force and set up abode windows, and get an enclosure to get your stuff off the previous one.
