I guess we're just not as advanced and "civilized" as we like to think we are.

The only I answer I know is, the bible. Part of it is,the bible says its wrong. Since most of our political leaders have been some type of Christian or Catholic, it stands to reason that it will be some time before that law will be changed. The funny thing is we wouldn't, as a people, vote for someone who wasn't religious. So I guess its a problem of our own making. The other part is prejudice, maybe being afraid of change.

Because the USA is a Theocracy not a Constitutional Republik like it is SUPPOSED to be.
Secondly: due to the fact that The People are subjekted to lables/classes/sects....ad nasuem... for the purpose and intent of predicating a "thumbs up or down" judgement call like so many Totenkopf kommandants, The People have yet to realize a true Egalitarian way of life, to which EVERYONE is entitled to "Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of happiness"!

Our country hasn't opened their hearts and minds to the idea that a same-sex partnership, adult and consentual, is a valid lifestyle. They haven't opened their minds to the advantages of it, or asked long and hard whether it will do real good to our society in the long-term.
I hope that we get there. To the point, where a couple of men and/or women can join their lives before state and country, and enjoy the benefits and responsibilities implied therein. I know many who do enjoy the responsilities and so on, without the backing of their country.
And I know they are waiting for the chance to join their fellow citizens in a fuller, guaranteed ability to do so from sea to shining sea.
Good Luck to all and Blessings.

Mainly because people are ignorant and are afraid of change. Christians think marriage is a religious term that means man and woman, and yet many atheists can get married. It's ridiculous, I know.

bible thumpers are afraid the homosexuals' marriages will be loving committed relationships that last longer than those of the stuck up, hypocrites that attend their church. there are too many people out there that want to force their religious beliefs on the rest of us.

I don't understand why America can't keep pace with the rest of the world..Sorry I don't mean to criticize...but of all places where it should be legal the US is it. I never would have thought that Canada(I am Canadian) or Mexico would be first.

The same reason black people were not allowed to vote. It's pure prejudice and paranoia.
