Seems to me that people who live in large cities don't think twice about walking a few miles ... to transit, to shop, to doctors, work, and whatever else; and that people in medium cities and smaller just hop in their car even to go a half mile or less.

Anyone else notice this?

i'd imagine so, just because it would be more of a hassle to drive your car (find parking, pay for parking, etc.) in large cities! That's why I walk everywhere!

Small city of roughly 22,000....this is small for the area as this is in between to considerable cities that are approximately 60,000 each and each. we've taxis (in case you're prepared to attend 40 5 min. as you could desire to call for one you could not in basic terms flag one down), yet no buses. We had buses transforming into up and then they went to taxis. fortuitously, there is not any meters....you pay one flat value interior of city limits. we don't have a mall (there is an outlet mall 7 miles away), and have a Wal-Mart Supercenter, Shopko, and a good form of eating places, bars, and church homes.....there's a bar or a church on each and every corner of this dang city.

depends on the city.... alot of cities in the south are so sprawled out and consist of suburbs so cars are a must to get everywhere. Not to mention public transportation isn't widely available once you venture out of the city center.

Very true, especially if that city has good public transport.
