Water temp? A fishes metabolism is based on water temp. The higher the temp (80 degrees) the faster it will grow, get old, and metabolize food. If the water is a little cooler, say 76, it will live longer and not need as much food. Oscars are pigs. They will eat almost as often as you feed them! Water quality becomes an issue also with frequent feedings. Be sure and change at least 20% of the tanks water at least weekly. Be sure and add a water conditioner that removes chlorine and chloramines to this water that has been brought up to tank temperature. Once a day feedings are OK with 76 degree water. Enjoy your Oscar!

You have been doing very well by feeding it twice daily.
Hikari Chiclid pallets and occasionnaly blood worm, mealworm, Green pea & feeder fish is an excellent combination. No one can do better. Whoever told you that you should feed adult Oscar only 3 times a week or every other day knows "much less" than you about fishkeeping.

Keep it up !

I fed mine 2 times a day. They'll eat as much as you give them, so you need to restrict their diet to what you think is appropriate.

Its good that you got him to eat the hikari chiclid staple. That's the best thing for him in the long run. Oscars can suffer all kinds of damage from eating too rich & fatty foods over long periods of time. Some people feed their oscars beefheart all the time & its terrible for the fish.

As a general rule, hungry fish are happier fish, but oscars are total pigs & they'll appreciate more frequent feedings. You 'can' feed him 3 times a week & he'll live just fine, but he'll probably be happier with at least daily feedings if not bi-daily feedings.

Oh, and my oscars favorite treat was freeze-dried Krill straight from the bottle., sally's san francisco brand. They would jump out of the water & eat it out of my hand. No soaking or anything. They went cazier for krill than any other food.

To save money you can also feed it small hard dog food
I had 2 large oscars and the loved it and did very well on it.
If you check it out , the dog food has everything that your Oscars need in there diet.
Mine started out at about 2" and when I sold them they were around 12"

your feeding is good. Though others prefer different regimens. I would not recommend changing your feeding style.

You can continue doing that. It's what I do with my fish.
