I know of two here in the DFW area. Have used them and they both are excellent trainers and have won quite a bit in the working cowhorse events. One trained my horse to be a top western pleasure and team roping horse that excells in both events. Email me and I will give you their name and numbers. These videos are also very good training tools.

What i have told many people before is that hiring trainers is the easy way out. It's like skipping the hard part and then getting your horse to come back robotic and push button-- that doesn't help the rider grow at all, rider's need challenges and new experiences to help them become better and better. Trainers are rather robotic in their training, which means your horse will most likely come out robotic too.... Don't you want a horse with CHARACTER? Sending your horse away to someone else is not a good idea, you haven't seen and you won't know how they trained him and what methods they used-- If you want this horse for life, you want him to be trained to your personal commands, your quirks and your ways, not someone elses or the puzzle piece just wont fit. Instead, try getting some lessons at a local barn, they should run about 30-40$ for an hour private, but you could also get a group lesson for about 20-30$. This way your riding instructor can help you and your horse, and help you progress when you both are ready! This way you and your horse can grow together.

GOOD LUCK! And if you need any more help you can contact my equine help hotline by adding Equine Help 101 to your buddy list, for fast answers and advice--almost all day =)

Wow, this is Texas, and trust me they're everywhere. I've found trainers for $200-2000 a month, so really your best bet is to pick up a Paint or Quarter horse monthly and get to shopping in the back. Check out the place, see what they've won, and how much it's going to set you back. Also make sure it's someone that is going to dedicate the time to training your horse. I know one family that pays $800 a month alone on training, not including farrier, boarding, or showing fees, and if the trainer is out of town two weeks they still pay that regardless. Basically, research, research, and get a referrel or two before you commit!!!

You're kidding right? There are dozens of the best cow horse trainers in the world within 50 miles of FW. Ride out to Weatherford and stop and visit some of the cutting horse operations, anybody can steer you to a good trainer. Go to the NCHA site and look under trainers. I can give you names and numbers of 15 or 20 that I personally know. The NCHA super stakes starts on the 27th and runs to April 15 It's at Will Rogers Colosseum in FW go down there and talk to people.

From Gainesville south,,, you will trip over them..... I know two really good colt starters near Rhome who are quite affordable and coach students as well.
Just to give you a third answer regarding your horse.

The prior answer to mine is way off base,, if you want to learn to be good,, you and your horse should have a trainer and a coach... We pay the bills with money we win from people like that.

i think you should create a free account on pleasurehorse.com. it's a very popular forum among people who competitvely show quarter horses, paints, and apps at the national/world level. i think if you post a question on there, you'll get information on cow horse trainers in the fw area, promptly.
