write a weekly menu ahead of time and and make a list of things you need or will need during that week, and don't waver from it. buy off brands if possible, If you can make something that you can also buy premade, homemade is almost always cheaper( except lasagna). Shop only after you've eaten so you won't be tempted by treats. buy in bulk as often as possible, since bulk is cheaper. buy cheaper cuts of meats and cook them in a slow cooker or marinate it to make it more tender.

If my MONTHLY shopping bill is more than sixty pounds, I'm being extravagent. I can get it down to thirty - thirty five pounds but that doesn't allow for much variety. The way to drive your bills down is to ignore the buy one get one frees as a rule. I buy their cheapo range. I shop at Morrisons and so buy a lot of Bettabuy.

To be sure, Bettabuy cola isn't as nice as Pepsi Max which I would buy if money wasn't an issue but it is and the cheaper one is 21p for a big bottle, a saving of over a pound a bottle. They do cheapo versions of most things and although the quality and taste may not be quite the same as the top branded stuff, you have a lot more money in your pocket.

For that sixty pounds, I have a trolley that I can't fit another thing in. However, I live by myself, I've heard my colleagues say that they don't buy it because their partner or children won't eat it - my cat certainly won't touch Bettabuy cat food, he has to have branded stuff.

Not that difficult, you just need the time. Take advantage of all supermarket offers such as buy one get one free. So buy toilet rolls even if you don't need them if such as offer is on. Collect all coupons. I'd suggest shopping at Tescos and make sure that you sign up for the ClubCard. Make sure you use all vouchers given before the expiry date: however do not buy perishable food unless you are going to use it.

Make a list of "essential" items and stick to that list go to the supermarket of your choice that you think will give you the best buys.

Some supermarkets are good on the basic food items but make extra profit on say- hardware items, kitchen rolls toilet rolls cleaning materials, go to a discount store like "Pound land" for these items.
