In the paragraph below
Once the liver runs out of glycogen, the liver converts to a process called gluconeogenesis. Gluconeogenesis turns amino acids into glucose.

The liver then begins producing ketone bodies from fatty acids being made available in the blood by lipolysis. Brain and nerve cells convert over from being pure consumers of glucose to partial consumers of ketone bodies for energy. This process is called ketosis -- which is why the Atkins plan is also known as a ketogenic diet.

Arent amino acids the building blocks of muscle, doesn't this process stunt muscle growth and make you weaker?

This is true. Amino acids are the building blocks of all protein - including the protein needed for muscle.

Prolonged ketosis can cause catabolism of proteins as well as the burning of fat that the Atkins diet is aiming for. This is one of the main points that opponents of the Atkins diet plan usually cite.

All I can say is you are about correct. And yes the Adkins works. But be prepared Not only does this diet play hard on your body. Your mentality will go all to hell. The first week or so it is fine. Then your body chemistry changes and so does your moods. Your family will let you know when you are unbearable to live with. It is best to figure out how many calories you need to maintain weight then work off the calories you don't. Lets say you need 2,000 calories to maintain your present weight. if you work off say 500 extra a day, at the end of the week you will lose 1 pound of weight.
1 pound of weight is equal to 3500 calories. Goes the same if weight is needed to gain eat 500 Cal's more a day and don't burn any extra off 1 pound should be gained in a week.
Carbs are converted to energy. your body burns up the energy as needed if you don't use up the energy your body will store it.
