there are a LOT of nippy fish out there, and a lot of white coloured fish, it really could be a wide range of things! a better discription including size would help.

not a piranha though, they're more dark brown/green/red in colour, the red bellies are anyway which are the more commonly found one, and they shouldn't be in community tanks anyway!

It could be a pink convict cichlid. They have a big mouth and the males have a hump on their heads that gets bigger as they age.

It's not a piranha...piranha look like the red-bellied pacu at the pet store.

Maybe you could take a photo of your fish and upload it to photobucket or somewhere, and see if someone recognized it from the picture.

You'd need a better description. It could be a tetra or barb. Most piranha are actually vegetarians and quite peaceful, only attacking sick fish.

Its a betta fish a.k.a. the Siamese fighting fish. They come in all colors and are easy to get. When they (males) are put in a bowl with another fish it will instinctively attack the other fish, biting and ripping the other fish's fins and tail. Let alone long enough they will kill.
They are easy to take care of and cool to have around.

could be anything by your vague description - how about adding more details like size, shape, fin shape, markings, etc?

could be a betta, could be a cichlid, could be any fish that's old and lost it's coloring.
