Here in America we really have a hard job understanding most coups, we often think it is because of a poorly run government, more often than that is just a power take over of a country using the military, it is when usually a General has control of the military and he thinks he can do a better job than the current administration, but in real life it is because he wants two things, number one is POWER,and number two is MONEY.
Corruption, is a usual result of a coup, but also corruption is also the primary cause of a civil war. Please keep in mind that the difference between a civil war and a coup is that the coup is done by the military (normally) and a civil war is done by the proletariat, or working class of people uprising against the government.
A good example of a civil war in this country would not be the war of the 1860s that most people think of but it would be the revolutionary war of 1776, In our case things went well for us but we had some pretty smart men to figure out what and how to do it.
Let me throw in a another word or two The average democracy lasts about 200 years we are at we are at 231 years and what usually follows is a Autocratic government I hope that I don't see that in my life time.
