Do you prefer the Lord of the Rings Movie trilogy or the the Lord of the Rings Book trilogy? As far as the books are concerned, I am only talking about the 3 core books that make up the story.

Do you have a favorite character from the book or movie?

Was there anything you didn't like about either series?

There are different things that I like about each of them. I love all the songs and poems and other little bits that were in the books but not included in the movies. But the movies have an AMAZING soundtrack and the battles were really cool. Also, I'm a big Viggo Mortensen fan, so seeing him as Aragorn was great! ;)
In both forms, my favorites are Gandalf, Gimli, Samwise, and Aragorn. All of the characters are great though, and it's hard to pick favorites. Unlike the horrid monstrosity they turned the Harry Potter books into when adapting them to a movie....
I didn't like that they cut out the scenes with Tom Bombadil and the Barrow Wright. However, most of the changes and cuts they made from book to movie were excusable because the books are so immense.

There is no denying that the movies were great, but I still think the books were better.

The books had characters in them that never appear in the movies and the ending was much more dramatic.

Favorite character: Gandalf, of course.

this question is hard!!
I really don't think i can pick one over the other...i loved both! I think the movies did a great job of covering as much as they could from the books...

i didn't have a favorite character in the books, but in the movies it was Legolas...for obvious reasons ;)

i didn't like how the moves skipped over some whole chapters...where was tom bombadil?!

I think that the books were much better, though the movies are my favorite in the whole world! Think about it though, It took Tolkien a lifetime to write an epic tale, but the movies were made in just a few years. I love them both though.

I think that it is impossible to have a favorite character when there is so much good in all of them.

I definitely preferred the books over the film! The books were my introduction to ME(if you know what that stands for from only watching the movies, then you're blessed, lol). The songs and poems were intricate, and I really liked learning(poorly at that) elvish as a language(don't ask). Two of my favorite characters were Glorfindel(killed off by Arwen) and Tom Bombadil(weird Treebeard hybrid). I began reading all of the other books just because of these two people in hopes of learning more about them. Of course I liked Frodo, Boromir, Faramir...Well shoot, I liked everyone! The books were catchy and unlike anything that I'd ever read before.
The movies were wonderful too, but couldn't take the place of my books. I really liked the Brothers of Gondor, Galadriel, Gandalf and Haldir. Though apparently Arwen owns Asfaloth(She must have tied and gagged Glorfy or something). Did great jobs in casting, and the movies were well put together, though I still wanted my Tom Bombadil which they sort of gave me when Treebeard uttered a few of his lines(my frown at least became neutral). But overall I was happy enough to get the theatrical, extended, and special edition extended Lotr, not to mention calendars, journals, and games(board and PS-2).

I have too many favorites from the books, so I'll tell you who I didn't like! umm, Grima? (like anyone liked him anyways)
From the movies I'd have to go with uhh, BoriFaraGalaHaldGandalf-amiriel (does that count as a person? Lol.
Oh, now I was supposed to list what I didn't like? oops
Well the only thing that I didn't like about the books were that Boromir died.
In the movies I didn't like the fact that Boromir died and that Frodo's age wasn't mentioned. Thought the Ring accounted for his young appearnce, he was well over 50, didn't that count for anything? I would have preferred for him to appear his actual age, much as Bilbo had after no contact with the Ring. Oh and the fact that Boromir was killed off in the first movie really got me, but then again someone had to die right? Boromir and Haldir died pre-maturely. Boromir died a story too early, and Haldir fought and died when I'd expected him to be far far away. The last thing that I wished they'd included in the movie, were the inscriptions on Snowmane's Grave. (Snowmane was a beautiful white horse owned by King Theoden, but was shot and fell on him in panic) The inscriptions were as follows "Faithful servant yet master's bane,
Lightfoot's foal, Swift Snowmane"
If that didn't suck, then I don't know what did.

But on the whole as you can see, I loved both versions immensely and watch and read them alone or with others when they are able to bear with my lectures(yeah, I'm one of those people that you only hear about).

They were completely different mediums so it is unfair to compare them. However, I always choose a book over a movie. With a book I am only contained by the depth of my imagination. With a movie I am contained by someone else's.

I love so many of the characters that as soon as I think of one it feels wrong not to include the other. I really did love Gandalf though. He feels like an old friend to me.

The books are my preference. Tolkien created, knew and loved that world. It wasn't a just a story to him. Every detail was so vivid and real. Like a part of history.

The books! no question.

My favorite character is Tom Bombadil. It's a travesty that he didn't get a spot in the movies!

Legolas was cool, along with the elves. They are so mystical and full of wisdom. Peace!
