My cat that I love so so much died on 3/15/07 of chronic renal (kidney) failure. I am an emotional wreck because Rings died. I ran up a bill of $3000 frantically trying to save Rings but I could not. The food I fed Rings was Iams. Can I do something to get them to pay for his bill or acknowledge that they killed my beloved Rings? He was such a spoiled, beautiful, conceited, chubby and mean orange cat that can never ever be replaced. I am heartbroken.

I am very sorry for your loss.

Here in FL state law considers pets as personal property. As such, owners are only entitled to recover the actual purchase price of the animal. We are waiting to see if the state legislature is going to step up and correct that. Right now they are suggesting filing in small claims court if owners wish to try and recover the cost of treatment.

I am very sorry, I feel for you. We also love our cat very much. He is at the vet right now with an IV getting treated due to the tainted food. So far I am in for about $1k in vet bills. The emotions my wife and I have been going through are like a roller coaster.

This is what I am doing: I am calling Petsmart and Petco where I normally buy my food and asking for a list of all foods bought with my PetPerks or whatever their VIP cards are called. Then I am going to go after Nutro to reimburse me or join a class action lawsuit.

Of course this cannot begin to cover the emotional aspect at least I can hit them where it hurts, on their bottom line.

I want to thank you for bringing this matter up. I want to tell you how sorry I am for the loss of your beloved cat Rings. All of this pain that owners and their beloved companions have went thru because of tainted food, it's heartbreaking.

As of now, if you go to foxnews.com and type in dog food a lady is taking legal action for the loss of her animal I believe due to the length of time to issue a warning. Also, shouldn't there be a symptom list to be made public for symptoms to this inparticular? Keep your old food is possible, receipts, and all vet bills.

It may help if you can store Ring's belongings in a special place. You can remember her with them when you're ready. It may also help if you can rest that Ring has gone to a better place, I really believe all our furry companions (and non-furry too) go to Heaven. Rest in Peace Ring.

Keep all your vet bills and receipts for the pet food.

I havent seen anything on the news about damage claims except the pet food recall.

Its unclear who you would need to sue. It probably would be the brand name of the food purchased if it doesnt show menufoods on the can.

You probably need to talk to a lawyer first , the first visit is usually free.
