Are they still available? Are they unsafe? I know little about cars, but I was just curious.

they have created a new generation of solid tire that works good however they will not approve it because it will still work when the tread wears out making it unsafe for road use so they say

CPR is right , the ride quality would be horrible , and at highway speeds the heat buildup would get unsafe , they are also heavy , keeping the unsprung weight down is a factor in economy . forklifts still have them , cars stopped using them around 100 years ago

they dont work with speed, no grip car will slide alot

because they wouldnt "hold" the road as well. and they would not reduce the jolt we would feel from pot holes as well.
