Your link is explaining the facts as well as we know... Anyway, I guess it's unfair to leave "temporarily" the own national team. This a choose, not a need. Others player are proudly joining Italy, nevermind if they're facing the top demanding season stage. Some are playing in CL, other are struggling in their division. No one has the chance to act the same as Totti. If you refuse Donadoni's call, you're out. So, if Totti is unwilling to play in Italy, it's better a public announcement for his retirement. Donadoni said he's bored. Fans too. IF Italy will partecipate in Euro 08, why the players who battled for this result must leave their cap to Totti? Unfair. Wrong.

Now he's trying to find again the best shape after the last injury, he still not at 100% and often he cannot be trained for physical problem, then he decided to not play for Italy until september.
At the end of the season, in June he will also make an operation to remove the plate from his ankle.
After he will done a real preparation and in september he will be ready to come back in national team.

Cuz he thinks he's too good for the Italian National team and therefore makes up the excuse that he has other more important things to do. Dude, I wouldn't even think it twice to play for my country!
