I have to write a literature review for my social psychology class and I am having some trouble coming up with a topic. I want to do something that has to do with the self and, preferably and more specifically, self esteem. My idea is currently a little too broad, so if anyone has any ideas, please help a woman out!! Thanks.

Just a week ago I did a unit in one of my classes about beauty and society's view of the perfect male and female. There is a lot of information out there about young girls and their self esteem as it relates to pop culture and mass media.

Just an idea.

You could try 'Socialization' with the mention of primary and secondary socialization explained by Charles Cooley.

Or better yet, try 'Impression Management' and refer to how Goffman anlyses what he calls 'the art of impression management', the techniques that people use to control the impressions others receive. Therefore, whatever human beings do, they are conscious of what others might think.

Good luck!
