im doing a critical essay on how the quilt illistrates personalities and values of dee and maggie, but stating that ultimatly, its their understanding of their culture that determines their value for the quilt.

She has had very little schooling and is extremely insecure due to the burns and her over-bearing sister. She can quilt, cook, and work on the farm. She didn't have much schooling. Enjoying the simple pleasures in life and being afraid of your own shadow doesn't make you mentally disabled. Ignorant? Yes. Mentally disabled? No.
