I knew I was pregnant before any test told me I was. My breasts got Really sore immediately, but generally, its about a week to a week and a half before you are supposed to start your NEXT period. Don't waste your money before then, and yes, the store brands work just as good.

A blood test will show if you are pregnant or not 7 days following conception.

You can take a home test:
If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

It depends, everyone is different. I had a friend (who is about to give birth anyday now) have a blood test at about 3 weeks pregnant (she actually thought she was 5 weeks, that's why she went to the doctor) and it came up negative. So that was too early.
I think you would have to wait until at least your period was due before you bother.

It can be from early as 1 week after you get pregnant. The hormone HCG doubles and that is what gives you a positive test result.

Assuming no lab error, blood serum tests are nearly 100 percent accurate as early as one week after conception.

I don't think its a standard time frame... I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks after. Some people don't find out for a month. It all depends on how your own body's hormones react.
