My wife has severe Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue. We are in need of a new bed, and want to buy one but im not sure which might be the best for her. She never seems to get a good nights rest.
We have been looking at the Select Comfort, but we are actually considering going with a Tempurpedic.
It doesn't have to be limited to those two but what might help the most.

Firstly...my full sympathy to your wife. I am 20 and have had fibromyalgia since I was 13. I was always in pain, and the simplest of tasks can be enough to make me feel like I've been repeatedly run over by a truck.
I have it under relative control now. I went on the birth control pill and some how most of my symptoms have got less severe.
However I still have a lot of trouble getting a restful nights sleep. I have just started taking an insomnia formular by Nature's Own ( I live in Australia, not sure if this is available overseas). It contains Valerian, Humumlus lupulus (hops), pasionflower, chamomile, calcium hydrogen phosphate, and magnesium. I've only taken it for a week but I wake feeling more rested and energetic than I can remember in a long time.
Getting sound sleep helps greatly as the brain has a better chance of remaining in the brain wave states which enable the body to carry out healing processes and repair work for a long enough period, a problem for most people with FMS. Studies have shown that rather than remaining in these sleep cycles for long periods, the brain of a person with FMS cuts in an out of the the correct states, resulting in fatigue and poor health.
From personal expirience I would suggest the firmest mattress that your wife is able to comfortably rest on, but this is just my own expirience, she may require something different.
The best of luck.

The sleep number bed has many fans out there. My husband and I decided to give the sleep number bed a try. Our conventional mattress was breaking down, and my husbands back was killing him EVERY night.
We did the demo in the store and laid on it about 15 to 20 minutes and decided that we would give it a go. 15 or 20 minutes is not long enough to make an informed decision on a mattress we learned. We got a queen sized one with the dual chambers and the quiet motor . It wasn't the top of the line one, but it was the one just below it. We noticed right away that the mattress was firmer in the middle than any setting that we could get on the controller. To us, no matter what setting we set, we felt like it was an "air mattress" We were never so happy to get rid of it. Another problem we had is that it didn't sleep evenly. I don't mean across the whole bed, I mean within the individual chambers. At times I felt like my butt was higher than my head.
My husband was curious as to the beds construction before we bought it and asked to look inside of one. The clerks in the store wouldn't show him. After we received the bed we learned why. The bed is constructed very cheaply. Basically it is a bunch of regular foam surrounding a couple of air mattresses with a cover over top. Considering how much you pay, it certainly was made of meager materials.
We opted for the Tempurpedic Celebrity model after we returned the Sleep Number Bed. (They were good about taking it back but we still had to pay $200.00 to return it.) My husband and I both love it. His back pain has been gone since we bought it and both of us have said that if our house burned down tomorrow, we would go out and buy another one. The only gripes I have with the Tempurpedic is that it is VERY heavy to move and it is hard to find sheets that fit perfectly. Ours has a cashmere cover so the sheets work themselves off unless I use the elastic suspenders on the corners. Since using those, everything has been fine though.
To us, the sleep number bed simply felt like and overpriced air mattress. Your experience may be different, but I just thought I would post my experience so you could see the pros and the cons.

I went out and bought a Tempurpedic bed and love it. I also suffer from a mild form of Chronic Fatigue. I would say check it out. I know that at one point Tempurpedic had a 30 day in home trial and you may want to try that.

We recently bought one at Metro Mattress. I believe it's a Nature Thyme...something like that and even though I have arthritis I wake up each day with no aches or pains. Also, the sweedish mattresses are very good....a suggestion, get a good comfortable pillow too, it makes a big difference in getting a comfortable sleep. I paid $100 for mine and worried that it was a mistake...best investment I ever made. Good luck.

I have fibro and the only bed I can sleep in is a waterbed. It gives with the body and doesn't press into those trigger points.
