There's a lot of gunk on the surface, but even more crap stuck to the underbelly of the griddle. I'd like to hear your suggestions.

water... heat it up. put it so it drains into your sink, use a wash cloth/ dishcloth, whatever u have thick enough so you wont burn yourself, and wipe down all surfaces. the heat will kill the germs, and there is no risk of product ruining your teflon finish OR residue getting on your food later. This is how i clean my George Foreman grill, and I've had it for 3 years, and i use it all the time, and it still looks like new!

Nothing should be stuck to the teflon surface unless it worn or scratched. If it IS worn or scratched you should replace it. there are fumes released from damaged teflon as well as tiny flakes of teflon and you do NOT want to be eating those. The stuff on the bottom you can clean off with a Brillo pad because it's generally cooked on grease. Any gunk on pans is always grease.

if its electric you likely cant immerse it, put dawn on the top surface and spread it around with a paper towel and some water, wait a little while then go back and wipe it off with clean wet paper towels until there is no more soap. for the underside, do the same thing but then you can use one of the green scrubby sided kitchen sponges and get off most of what is under there.

If you buy cleaning sprays it could damage it, we bought a grease cleaning spray and it damaged ours. The safest thing would probably be to let the entire griddle soak in a sink of hot soapy water. Look into various dish soaps, many of them say they will cut grease and find a safe, maybe plastic scourers; but let it soak in the hot soapy water first.
