"Remember When" by Alan Jackson

**Here's the lyrics and a link to video. Good luck and have fun!

Remember when I was young and so were you
and time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when

Remember when we vowed the vows
and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when

Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when

Remember when the sound of little feet
was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when

Remember when thirty seemed so old
Now lookn' back it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are,
Where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when

I love Natalie Merchant when I am looking for songs about women. And when I read your question, I instantly thought about this one of hers by the 10000 Maniacs...before she left their group. I think she is the main lyric writer for the band but this source doesn't say who actually wrote the song. It is from the album, "Our Time In Eden".

These Are The Days

These are the days you'll remember.
Never before and never since, I promise, will the whole world be warm as this.
And as you feel it, you'll know it's true that you are blessed and lucky.
It's true that you are touched by something that will grow and bloom in you.

These are the days you'll remember.
When May is rushing over you with desire to be part of the miracles you see in every hour.
You'll know it's true that you are blessed and lucky.
It's true that you are touched by something that will grow and bloom in you.

These are days.

These are the days you might fill with laughter until you break.
These days you might feel a shaft of light make its way across your face.
And when you do you'll know how it was meant to be.
See the signs and know their meaning.
It's true, you'll know how it was meant to be.
Hear the signs and know they're speaking to you, to you.

The song is upbeat and catchy, it is pop without offending the sensibilities of someone that age, and I can see it being a lovely backdrop to a slideshow of her fav family photos at the party, and for use on your DVD.

Have fun. If this song doesn't do it for you, you may find another song by 10000 Maniacs or by Natalie Merchant as a solo artist...her songs are beautiful and tasteful, and they are often about a different set of experiences than ordinary people have.

Another suggestion is James Taylor...Secret O' Life. It is classic JT. It is acoustic, talks about enjoying your life as it goes by, and it is peaceful. It is widely available on many different CD's of his. Another very family friendly song by JT is called "shower the people."

You might also look into Joshua Kadison's music. He is great at writing songs as an elderly character..some are a little risque but he is always very classy. He is a piano man, super talented.

Sorry...I keep dragging this out but I keep getting ideas...there is always My Girl by the Temptations. What is not to like?
