Public financing of elections.
Full, on-line disclosure of all meetings and contacts with lobbyists.
Strict control on the amount that can be contributed to a poltical campaign or political action committee.

Nothing will eliminate corruption, but we can cut down on it by enacting new laws and regulations.

Mandatory term limitations, legislature clarification,
drug screeening and truth in advertising.
************

1) Limit of two terms per individual. No possibility for election to ANY other federal legislative position; cannot serve as staff or committee member of other Congressmen or Senators.

This limits the effectiveness of special interest groups, lobbyists, and brain trusts with regards to bribery and extortion.

2) Must be OUT of office to run for President (no running for executive branch and serving in Congress or Senate at the same time).

This limits the ceaseless "on-the-job" pandering of career politicians trying to line up their next job.

3) All bills and legislative actions must be singular in nature, limited to NO more than 20 pages, and easy enough for an eighth grader to read: no more multiple handouts of pork barrel disguised in 200+ pages of tripe.

Self-explanatory.

4) All politicians must undergo frequent and random drug testing.

If everyone else does, they should too.

5) All candidates must submit to background check for dubious affiliations and possible conflicts of interest. ALL findings then should be published in multiple sources.

Limits the smear campaign effectiveness and allows voters to make a more educated decision.

Openness and accountability.

Something both sides seem to lack at times. This admin is absolutely paranoid about secrecy and that hurts both - almost by default.

Get more people to vote! Half of us don't even bother to vote.
So who is it that really isn't filling their role in this representative democracy?
What message would the politicians get if 90% of us took enough interest in what they do to vote?
I think it would scare the hell out of them.

That's up to us, the voters. If we keep re-electing career politicians, that's what we get.. career politicians, not prople who truly represent us.
