In addition.. I "found out" because my friend's daughter had it and I didn't remember my girl receiving any oral vaccine. We DO travel.I'm sure she will be fine. It just upsets me because I WAS given paperwork on it, innitially I thought I had received it because the fine print about it being liquid was overlooked by me so I just figured it was part of the 3 injections. A pair of Med students from brown were present at her 2 month visit. Which is why I believe the doc was distracted. The vaccine is designed to be given BEFORE 8 mths. of age and must be started within 6 weeks of age. I guess it's true that it may be a blessing...but when and if she gets ill I will be forced to be majorly P.O.'ed!

The doc DID give the shots herself. When I called today..they DO give it in that office, and the other Ped. was stumped and said she had no answer on why it wasn't given. It was an oversight thats for sure.

Your the child's mother don't you ASK when your child gets vaccines? Don't you keep a record of your child's shots? Or did YOU forget? Your child's health is YOUR responsiblity, the doctor has more patients than just your daughter. So should your daughter change mothers?

Quote from a news article:
"The government warned doctors and parents Tuesday of reports of potentially life-threatening twisting of the intestines in infants vaccinated against a virus that is the leading cause of early childhood diarrhea.
The condition, called intussusception, is the same that led to the withdrawal of the first rotavirus vaccine eight years ago."
Let's see, rotavirus or twisted intestines? Hrmmmm. Instead of pushing this vaccine on parents, why not teach them that they need to wash their hands with SOAP after EVERY diaper change? My daughter got this bug TWICE from other people when they weren't sick. It's disgusting the way this virus is transferred, but hell, a little infant probiotic (the second time, I didn't know what I was dealing with the first time, so it was just nurse, nurse, nurse, nurse until she got better) and she was right as rain the next day.

Rota virus vaccine is not a necessary vaccine or one that is required to enter school. This disease is more prevalent in developing countries. In developed countries, the worst cases are heavy diarrhea. It's highly unlikely that your child will suffer from this, unless you plan to travel internationally.
Most pediatricians will ask the parents if they want to get this vaccine. Pediatricians have strong feelings for or against some vaccinations. Some feel that if it isn's a threat, don't vaccinate. I don't know what yours thought, but the bottom line is this vaccine is the least of your peds worries about your child.
But, if you don't like your ped for any reason, why not just change.
Best of luck!

In response to an earlier post... I do not know every vaccine that is coming on the market. I trust my pediatrician to keep me informed on new vaccines and how often they should be administered.
To answer your question...I do find it worrisome that they "forgot" the vaccine. In this case, it may have been a blessing. The last rotavirus vaccine had a lot of problems. I am not sure I would trust the new one. My daughter had rotavirus last year and as bad as it was, the vaccine actually caused death in some children.
I love my pediatrician and trust her completely. You may want to change to a different doctor. I do not think you will ever fully be able to trust her judgment again.

The rotavirus vaccine is not on the mandated sched. Its one that you have to ask about, like Hep A.
I believe all parents should be informed about all vaccines. Dont rely on your doctor for info, they get fed information from the drug companies... follow the money! Do your own research and make your own desision.
Every shot that goes into your childs arm or leg, you should know exactly whats in it (formeldahyde, aluminum... etc...) exactly what the reactions could be (anywhere from fevers, to anaphylaxis to arthritis, diabetes and guillien barre syndrome) and what the symptoms of the disease that your child is actually getting vaccinated for.
Too many parents blindly trust thier doctors.
What happens if your child comes down with an illness that theyre supposed to be vaccinated for and you miss the symptoms because they arent common knowlage anymore? My friends son lost half of his brain because she mistakenly thought he was immune to menegitis. She missed the warning signs and he is now trapped at the age of 6 months.
YOU are the parent, and YOU are responsable for your childs health.

Is it the pediatricians fault or the nurses? At my daughter's doctors office, all vaccines are handled by the nurses, not the doctor. But the doctor is the one that orders them. It's possible that her doc just forgot because the vaccine is new and s/he's not used to ordering it. But if you dont trust this person, definitely change doctors!

that's a sparkling vaccine and it remains debatable. The AAP has lower back withdrawn it because of the fact of concerns that it ought to reason intussusception. could be that's the reason that it grow to be no longer given. you ought to ask the pediatrician to verify.

How did you find out? Did they contact you? It's really not that big of a deal. She will be fine. Just take her back and have the vaccine administered if that's your wish. If you have lost trust in your doctor because of this than maybe you should switch doctors. But we're only human, doctors too.

Um you should read about the vaccine before you decide to give it to your child. I have gotten my daughter all the shots except polio, varicella, and pertussus and that is because I read about them and the effects that can happen due to the shot. Also shots don't gaurantee your child won't get sick. My best friend's son got the chicken pox and he had the vaccine for it!!
