Absolutely. Short answer: As someone put it, you root for the laundry (as in uniform).
Longer answer: I don't care where good players come from, as long as they come and play well for my team. The Red Sox could bring over the rest of the Japanese all-star team, and they would be adopted by the fans if they beat the Yankees.
I'm not denying that a certain identification goes with rooting for a sports team. It's my school against your school. But at the pro level, we'll take the best players in the world in the major leagues. The only question is, can you play?

Baseball is the most diverse sport in America and has the most ethnicities. The world baseball classic had professional players on every team by the way. Japan had Ichiro who the last time I checked is in MLB. Canada had Jason Bay. It just happened the USA team had a lot more superstars than any other country. Baseball is a game winning is determined by the game, not the roster. I don't think a team not having American players matters at all. America is a melting pot after all.

Definitely not. Although there are some really good baseball players that aren't from America, baseball is an American game. At least some of the players have to be American

Let's see Pedro Martinez, Bartolo Colon, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Johan Santana pitching, Albert Pujols at first, Robinson Cano at second, Orlando Cabrera at short, Aramis Ramirez at third, Manny Ramirez in left, Ichiro Suzuki in center and Vladimir Guerrero in right, Benji or Yadier Molina catching. I'd call that a dream team.
