Oh good God! Please do not "junior" your child. While this very old tradition had its place long ago, it does nothing but cause trouble in today's world. Your husband and son will continuously be trying to clear up credit report issues, etc.

And "BJ", are you serious, people? Why not call him "Dick". It's going to cause the same jokes and problems. Kids are mean, don't make it easy for them to tease your kid.

Your child deserves his own name. Use Benjamin as a middle name. Or at the very least, if you use Benjamin as the first name, change the middle, and don't let it start with "J". And make it something you can call him so that Daddy and son are not both answering to the same thing. How about Benjamin Patrick or Matthew Benjamin?

I really don't like naming the kid junior. It is nice for a boy and fathers love it, but can you imagine your 30 yrs old son being called junior? Sounds belittling...

As for BJ - you know he'll be picked on, right. There is no other way.

Why don't you use Benjamin as a middle name, and come up with a nice first name?

I agree with one of the other responses - Ben is such a nice name. If you are set on naming him after your husband, just do it and figure out what you'll call him after he is born. You may decide on an nickname and find that it just doesn't fit! For instance, I was set on calling my first son (Christopher John) C.J. but it just never took. We actually call him Christopher - the full name! My second son is named James Gregory and I was hellbent on calling him Jimmy. Never happened. Somehow we have taken to calling him Jamesie. OK, kind of corny and will probably (hopefully) change as he gets older, but it's just what fits for now. Nicknames can always change - just pick a good formal name and take it from there!

NEVER call a boy BJ he'll get his butt kicked and get called names (with I'm sure you could imagine). I would use Benjamin as a middle name and pick a different first name.

Jamie, Benny, Ben, Benjamin, Jay... Or, when he gets older, he might pick up his own nickname from school or friends.

I had a Benjamin last year in my prek class. His nickname is BenBen and I think it is adorable. Everyone loves it.

You could also call him Benjy (Bengy), Benj, Ben-Jay, Benny...

Good Luck!
