Pick it up.It could be a 1955 double die proof Lincoln cent,and that would be really lucky.

I heard both of these growing up. I think it was "luckier" when a penny actually had some value.

I also heard if they are not heads up they are bad luck

the saying goes find a penny, pick it up, and all day you'll have good luck...
personally i will not pick it up unless it is heads up. its partly due to the saying, partly due to obsessive compulsive disorder.
