She just bought the baby home a few days ago, and the dog is always trying to be around her. We don't want the baby to get sick or some thing.

The dog isn't going to make the baby sick. The dog just wants to see what everyone is making a fuss about and wants to greet the new arrival. Introduce the dog to the baby.

Obviously the dog is jealous that he/she isn't the center of attention anymore. It really does depend on the age of the dog. I know some people who had a kid when they had two dogs both around the age of 5 or so. One dog fell in love with the kid and the other resented it but was too kind hearted to actually hurt the baby in any way. It really does depend on the dog. Don't let the dog get near the baby's face though-it doesn't matter how kind the dog, they're still animals.

Its ok for the dog to be around the baby as long as hes not laying on the baby or licking her. Your dog is probably just trying to see who this new person is or maybe he's trying to do his job and protect his family. When I was a baby, my moms dog would park it right underneath my crib and wouldnt move unless she was hungry/thirsty/needed to pee or if my mom moved me. My dads friend came over to see me one time. There was a net over the crib so flies wouldnt get in. My dads friend touched the net to move it and the dog put her jaws around his wrist. Didnt bite or anything, she was just letting him know dont touch the baby. She removed her jaws when he removed his hand.
We loved that dog. She used to let us ride her horseback style when we were little. But she was a big dog.

get your own place. or if it is your place, tell her the dog simply has to go. Tell her your concerns and if she gets upset tell her you still love her very much but from now on the baby comes first.
