I am 35, was on the pill until last April. I went off the pill in April had some pretty normal menstrual cycles, then no period since Dec. I was not having sex during that time. I had sex three times after not having it for a year. The second time, I spotted a little after intercourse for only one day. A few days later, I bed a lot during sex/immediately after. It was pretty intense sex and a lot of blood but it did not continue. Two weeks before all this I had went to my doctor due to no periods. She said I was not ovulating and recommended I do hormone testing and gave me a kit to do at home (saliva and blood test) to see what hormones were out of sinc to cause this. I was supposed to take the test anytime if not having a period. If having a period, I was to do the test on day 20 after bleeding. Now I don't know what to do!!! Could the bleeding be caused by sex? Or could this mean I've started menstruating and ovulating? Do I take the test now as planned or at day 20?

You need to call your doc tomorrow and tell her everything you just posted here. The nurse will have the doc call your or the nurse will call you back to tell you what the doc wants you to do.

Birth control is hormone therapy. It messes and overloads your body with progeterone to stop ovulating and such. My sister took birth control pills to so-call straighten out her periods and once she was off of them it messed her up even MORe. I myself wouldn't really be worried.
And you haven't had sex in a year...I think your body isn't quite used to it since you laid off of it in so long. I am no where near your age and i havent' had sex, but i do know the small side effect that doctors dont' tell you. I would take a test just in case you didnt' use protection but i'm 99.9% sure the birth control pills did something. It depends on what you're taking them for. Regular periods? Try evening primrose oil. If not, then try other birth control methods.

i am guessing that bcuz you had sex is why you are bleeding. our bodies are funny, chemicals in our brain are what cause us to ovulate, and sometimes when you are out of practice, so to speak, our mind plays tricks on our body......for instance, if i had unprotected sex with my fiance' within a couple days of my expected ovulation, within hours my body would begin to ovulate, even though i wasnt due to ovulate for several days. it was almost like my head told my body to get pregnant....maybe bcuz you didnt have sex for such a long time your head wasn't instructing your body to react...so now i am willing to put money on it that your body will start adjusting to a normal cycle again.....good luck
