hi all, i just got a pair of calf length rainboots as a gift. they are cool, but the soles are this pinky/salmon color and i want to paint them. they are rubber/latex; the shiny stuff that has a synthetic smell. i know for a fact they can be painted because the company logo is painted/printed on. they werent expensive cuz i was there when they were being bought so i wouldnt be ruining an expensive gift. why bother? because the boots are awesome, its just the sole i want to change. what kind of paint do i use and do i need primer or anything else like that?

The problem is going to be at the point where the "rubber meets the road." I don't think you'll ever keep the soles from returning to the original color. You could consult a shoe repair shop, or email the customer service area of the company that made them and see if they have a simple solution.

Or, you could try going to a craft store and looking for paints (usually acrylics) that will remain flexible after drying. I know there's a big line of paints made specifically for fabrics.

I think I would lightly sand the shiny places to make them a little rough so the paint stays on, apply a primer, and then try some fabric paint.

Other than that, I have no idea......... Good luck.
