I have a disease called genetic pancreatitis and I'm currently an ssi. I am a 27 year old male that is dying. I have been told by many different doctors that I will have cancer in about 10 years. This was 2 years ago. I have no way of making any money, and can't even get out of my parents house to live on my own. Can't pay the bills. I can't do anything. I have all the medical papers anyone needs to prove this to them. I don't know where else to turn to. My life is a living hell. Pain and sickness everyday. I'm on 100 mcq/hr every 48 hrs of fentanyl. There is no cure for this disease. Please if someone could please help me, you would be God sent. Thank you for looking at my question, and thanks in advance for your answers. Andrew

Contact a support group and they will be only too happy to help you.

Check on google to see if there is a support group already in existance. If there is not a support group already in existance i suggest that you make a point of trying to start one up yourself. It's not an easy task, but it can be done. The best thing to do is to contact an other orphan disease that has a support group, perhaps Lupus, and see how they went about getting names and how they got organized. You don't need that many people to start up a group, but once you have the group you do have people to turn to for suggestions on how to help yourself through the tough times, how to cope with whatever comes down the pike as a surprise. I have an orphan disease and belong to such a group and have found it to be of a great help.

You may have lived longer than any other patient that I have heard of. Life is ugly for you and you have a right to be down now and then. Prove the whole world wrong and live for a long time and when you do survive start the fund for more research. My mom died in six weeks after diagnosis and from the sounds of it you could just live. My prayers for less pain....Beat this thing!

Check with your local health departments (city, county and state) or hospital and see if they have a list of organizations you could join or start your own area office.

The only ones that I know of that you could start, but you'd have to include that the funds you raise will be for all who have the same disease.

Krispy Kreme Donuts can be used for one.

In my area people who need donation for operations, diseases, burials - they would do car washes, pizza "party", set up a bank account for the purpose of said fund raiser or disease. Of course they would ask the pizza parlors if they would support a fund-raiser for a cause and see if they would donate half of what they sold in pizzas. The radio and television stations would help you by announcing on air the pizza thing, the car wash thing, as well as the bank account thing if you called them and asked. You could ask certain establishments retail stores, mom and pop stores if they would keep a donation jar on the counter for you. The pizza and bank fund-raisers could be for yourself if you so choose to do it that way.

You could go to your local book store and see if you can find copies of Sharol Tilgner, N. D. Books, or Video tapes. She is a well know Doctor of Natural Medicines. I know I worked for her. I have great respect for her. If you can't find her books, or videos you can go to her Internet site and order them from there. The herbs may not cure you either - but they might help you with the pain in some way.
