Whale shark are actually shark. They have have cartilage rather than bones. Sting rays, skate, Elephant Fish and skate belong to the same group. So I am about to apologise for my spelling.
The Whale Shark is a cartilaginous fish.

Mammal as they give give birth to live young and more importantly produce milk for their babies (the defining feature of a mammal). Sharks have eggs, and dont rear their young
