If the furnace is working, I mean it's on and it's blowing air then it is likely is the heater coil. The furnace intakes the cool air from your house, runs it through a heating process and blows out warm air. So if it is cool going in and cool coming out then it stands to reason that the heater coil is not functioning properly.

Do you have your furnace cleaned every year and do you change the filters on a regular basis? The filters should be changed every 3 months during the cooler weather. If they haven't been changed lately start with that. But most likely you will need a repairman to look at it in the end.

Nine out of ten times it is the filter that is plugged. Turn the thermostat to off befor you do this..After you have cleaned it provideing it is one that you can..If not replace it they are cheap. Then try the furnace. If you dont get heat you need a repairman.

Open the cover, hold down the safety switch and turn your thermostat all the way up. Things should happen:
-exhaust fan/blower fan should start
-igniter will spark/click, gas valve will "pop" and ignite the gas
-fire will continue to burn.

There could be a million things that happen in the mean time, fire could never ignite, it could go out after 10 seconds, gas could never start, could be no spark, etc...

we need more information as to what is going on.
