Right after Scout asks him if he has a Dad, he says no. She asks if he's dead and Dill explains he simply just doesn't have one. Then when Calpurnia comes outside, Dill brags about how his Dad owns part of the railroad and that his Dad is going to let him drive one of the trains someday..

I'm I the only one confused by that?

Dill doesn't "have" a dad because his parents are divorced or were never married. Back in those days, it was scandalous and Scout is too young to realize she shouldn't be prying into embarassing situations. Dill then begins bragging because it makes him feel better to lie about the father he never sees. Dill, by the way, was based on the author Truman Capote, who was the childhood friend of Lee Harper. Truman Capote really was a lonely boy who had to stay with relatives, and he wrote stories about it.

i always took that as Dill is the illegitimate child of the man that owns the railroad. and that he doesnt really have a dad, but his biological father visits from time to time and makes promises about the train.

but that is total supposition on my part.

properly One. i think of that Bob Ewell interior the movie is plenty extra nastier guy, who's spiteful and disgusting. he's assume to be terrible, yet i did not think of that terrible. i think of this does do Harper Lee justice, as for the duration of the court docket scenes, Mr Ewell suits what his character is assume to portray. 2. interior the movie, Aunt Alexandra isn't a substantial character. She does not come to stay with the Finches, and as a result such existence of the Missionary Circle won't be able to be. this does not supply Harper Lee justice, as she replaced into assume to be a substantial function sort to Scout. 3. the character of Tom Robinson is solid. He comes in the time of as a remarkable, type gentleman, who might surely not injury Mayella, and his courtesy encourages this. wish this has helped, I additionally propose renting the movie, its a priceless watch.

I dont think he ever knew his dad. In another part of the movie he tells someone that his dad is going to swoop down in an airplane and pick him up too. I think he makes up stories about his dad to make himself feel better.
