You're supposed to put the bigger numbers first, so 2000 is MM. 2001 is MMI. If you put a smaller number before a bigger number, that means subtraction. For example, XL is 40. (50-10=40) IV = 4. The other rule is that you do it in the least number of numerals, and you can't have more than one lesser numeral in front of a higher one. So IIV is not the right way to write 3, but III is. DCCCC wouldn't be 900, but CM is.

IX= 1 before X. X=10 so one before 10 would b nine.
III=3 II=2
VI= one after V. V=5 so one after five would be 6
VII=7 XII=12
anything after that is more letters representing numbers and i dont know them but these r basic ones!
