Just over 6 hours, including quick stops for gas and restroom break. They wont ticket you if you keep it under 75 in CA and about 83-84 in AZ....you can generally do about 10 over the limit before they ticket you.

The "Mapquest" distance is roughly correct, but the time is WAY off because it does not allow for traffic, stops for gas, etc. Driving at the speed limit it will actually be closet to 7 hours. (65 mph in Ca., 75 mph in AZ) Don't take plants into Arizona. They will check you at the border.

When we drove it, it took us about 5½ - 6 hours. We did the drive overnight and my husband was driving very fast. It really depends where in L.A. you start and where in the Phoenix area you are going. We left from near Watts, stopped in Pomona to pick someone up and then went to El Mirage (northwest of Phoenix).

About 5-6 hours depending on traffic and where you are going in Phoenix. East valley will take longer getting there than the west valley.

I loved some of these answers and you know the distance remains the same no matter what, so it all depends upon how fast you drive and how much traffic is out there...it can be 5 hours it can be 7 hours and usually somewhere in between!
