Im still a student and I hardly ever got any home work through out high school a typical night of home work for me would consists of 3 to 5 math problems and thats about it. Now that Im a senior the only homework I have is writing essays for my English class, but the teacher gives us about a week or so to do it. I think homework is good for students there just shouldnt be that much of it, just enough to go over what you did in class that day to make sure if you are retaining the information or maybe you need the teacher to go over it again next class. However I do understand where your coming from because there have been times were Ive been up till like ten at night. Its like the teachers dont take in to consideration that their students actually have other classes outside of theirs and they do actually work in those other classes. I thought the teachers were supposed to be the smart ones here.

The newest research in this area pretty much says that though homework is somewhat good for kids, that the ammount most children come home with is terrible for them. It is a teachers job to get the teaching done IN CLASS. I have a son who is in kindergarden, he comes home with work from school a few times a week and though it is not much right now, I can't imagine when he is older and comming home with 3 to 5 hours worth of homework every single day. I believe that if children are level in intelligence with their peers that more than an hours worth of homework a night is rediculous. If your kids need the extra help to keep up then yes, send home something to study, otherwise leave me with my child to teach him the things that he doesn't learn at school!

What is it exactly that you want to know? Because children are usually only in school for about 6 hours a day, it is impossible for them to learn everything they need to know. Studying at home allows for greater learning. If they are struggling with their homework, they should be able to contact their instructors or a service at their school. If your child's school does not offer any extra help, I strongly suggest you either call or have a meeting with the principle or vice principle to discuss other resources available to you and your child. The simple fact is that homework is absolutely necessary. Public school simply does not allow for enough in-class time to learn everything necessary. Unfortunately, some do struggle, but it is a necessary evil of schooling.

I teach ESL (English as a Second Language) and I give homework as a way for my students to study alone. Group work in the classroom is fine, but people need to think for themselves, too. But my attitude is that if you, the student, don't want to do the homework then don't. You're the one who's going to suffer not me. Granted, I teach at a private language school, but I think I would have the same approach if I taught in the States at a local public school.

Homework is good for teaching your children responsibility and good study habits. I don't have any problems with my kids having homework, as long as it is a reasonable amount. When homework takes more than an hour of solid work time then it is too much. (And I am not referring to special projects that are given out weeks in advance.)

When i wuz a kid, there was study hall for a hour, that is when you did your homework and if you didnt have homework, you just read or drew pictures or write in your diary.
Homework time is great for children, keeps them busy and smart.

How do you think you ever got better at things in school? You would suck terribly without homework practicing you for when you really need it. As a parent it is your JOB to take care of your kids, not find ways to neglect them. Re-think your opinion, and give it some more thought. ;D

Homework is for parents to interact with their children by assisting as teachers do. It is good for parents to help their children with homework, as sometimes that may be the only time they actually spend any quality time with them.
