I want the logo to stand alone so if I cut and paste, it will take the backround of where it has been pasted

Ok if you dont own photoshop as all above have said, get GIMP, its free and will do most anything photoshop will do.

You will need to use either png, or gif format to save your logo with a transparent background if you plan to use it on the web.

right-click the picture


if the "picture toolbar" does not display automatically, click "display picture toolbar"

On the picture toolbar, there is a button that looks like a pencil
it is the "set transparent color" button
it can only be used once on one color

click that button to use it
then click on an area of the picture's background

There are times when this does not work because of the way in which the picture was put together - but when it does work, it's great. You can only try.

If you don't like the result, click the "reset" button on the picture toolbar.

You need to use Adobe Photoshop...
Open your photo.
Click on the Eraser tool and select Background Eraser...
Then click on the white background.... walla... it will disappear...
Save and there you have a logo itself without the white background...

the only program that supports transparent backgrounds, that I know of, is photoshop.
