here's the deal. right now I'm selling hemp necklaces to get some start up cash. I was going to save up $150 to get shirts printed at a t-shirt company. but then I thought about making my own shirts, atleast the first style. I thought about tie dying a regular t-shirt, maybe with a peace sign or a logo (I'm calling this little business Big J's T-Shirts). ultimately the money's going towards starting a band. anyway I was just wandering how much the dye and ash, and whatnot, would cost for the t-shirts. i wouldnt make a whole lot out to start with, maybe 10 or 15. and depending on cost i guess i would sell then for around $15 each? so how much would it cost to start this up?

How Much Is Tie Dye

Tea is always a colour maker, make the tea real strong, and let it stand for a while before using. And if you want to have colour spots, you might colour the wheels with permanent markers. But realize that these natural dyes take more effort, and for the best results you need chemicals to fix the colours to the textiles. You might be better of if you go to your local drug-store, and just buy enough textile dye for re-dyeing clothes. Just one packaging will be enough, for more than just 18 shirts. If you use one tub with water with just a little dye, and an other with a lot of dye, you can even make several shades for untying and over-tying experiments. Craft shops are not the cheapest way to buy dyes.

VERY CHEAP!
I work at a Kids Camp and we do it all the time!
Get the RIT Dye (at any drugstore) and put 1-2 packets in a 5 gal bucket if you're going to do alot. Use hot water and maybe a cup of Vinegar.
Tie up the shirts you can look it up online...

Well, when I made tie-dyed t-shirts when I was little, I think we just used regular cloth dye. You can get little boxes of them in the grocery store or Walmart. I think it only costs about a dollar or two for one box of color. And you'll get enough color in each box to tie-dye a lot of shirts.
