I disagree. I would call it a pointless exercise. Modern research has revealed that there is no universal set of management competencies. Modern theorists support the notion of contingent management where certain skills are necessary for certain situations, but not for others.

However, to answer the question, I would believe that results could be practical for the real world. It can help identify central core competencies to focus training and recruiting to create successful future leaders. Such academic research has been implemented by many Fortune 500 companies as means to improve their leaders, particularly the junior managers and supervisors.
