okay. first off, the hp 22 cartridge is VERY LOW CAPACITY. i cannot stress this enough, seriously.
yellow goes in the left holes (when you have the copper contacts facing AWAY from you).
magenta (red) goes in the top hole.
cyan (blue) goes in the right holes.
you must put NO MORE THAN 2ml for each colour (not each hole).
you're going to have an almost impossible time cleaning it out, but here is how you do it:
windex is your new best friend. also, lots of paper towels. clean out a syringe and then fill it with windex. hold the cartridge over some sort of container you don't mind possibly ruining, and put the syringe into whichever colour hole you want to clean out first. flush the windex into the hole, and let all the colour bleed out into the container. you may need to do this more than once per colour! once the windex comes back out clearly (or close to clear), please suck out the extra windex with the syringe.
continue until all three colours are cleaned out. be prepared to spend A LOT of time doing this! then get out all the windex, and put the right colour ink back in where it should go (yellow in the left pair of holes, magenta in the top hole, cyan in the right pair of holes).
this procedure does reduce your ink capacity in most cases. please be careful next time you refill :)
(fixed my lovely typo, too, sorry about that if you saw it!)

Hi Refilling your cartridges is not a good way to go. If you need to buy cheaper cartridges, go to ebay, I buy all my brand new cartridges there for a fraction of the price I would pay where I live in Canada

Messy job.the colors are the same as on the refill box.but if you clean them with water you may damage the circuitry in the cartridge..I would suggest that you buy a new cartridge and start over...good luck

Go to Cartridge World if you have one nearby, they have all replacement cartridges, when they run out they will refill them for half the price of buying new ones. I have a dell printer. They charged me $12.50 for color and $11.00 for black.

I do not think that once the colors have been ruined that you will be able to fix it..I recommend going to Staples or Office Depo they carry HP compatible cartridges :) Good Luck
