before disposing regular paint cans in the trash, you are suppose to open the lids and let the paint dry.
that's what they do in our county. If it's still wet, you have to take it to hazzardous waste disposal. If it is dried up in the can, you can put it in the regular trash.

You can dispose of almost every paint in the trash that is dry or hard in the can. Wet paint cannot be put in the trash.

For latex paint, just pour it into an old cardboard box and let it dry out. You can buy an additive at the paint store that hardens it in the can. I have also used clay litter as an absorbent for spilled paint, easier to clean up. After it is dry, it no longer poses a health threat to animals or the ecosystem.

No! take it to your local recycling center.
The one here (MO) you have to call and make an appointment
because they only recycle from april thru november, and then they do it once a month. So they can have the right type of disposal units to put your stuff in.
They take use oil, paint, yard chemicals, batteries etc.

I would suggest taking the covers off and let them dry up before disposing of them. Won't be a problem from the sanitation department.
