In Windows XP: Right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Then select the Advanced tab on the top. If you are able to increase the resolution you will see a slider bar you can slide to the right.

In Windows Vista: Right click on your desktop and choose Personalize. Then choose "Display Settings". You will then see a slider bar to increase your resolution.

If you can not slide it any higher(to the right) you will have to get a better video card and/or monitor. Keep in mind if you have a square(non widescreen monitor) you are going to want to probably stay with 1024x768, 1280x1020 or 1600x1200.
