We are getting ready to start getting our home ready to sell, and one of the problems is the doorbell. We had the house built for us while my husband and I were deployed to Iraq, so the builders cut corners everywhere they could knowing we weren't there to see. Well the doorbell hasn't worked since we moved in. They came by once to fix it, said they would be back to fix it, and never came back. The warranty is no good anymore and I want to fix the doorbell. Any suggestions? P.S. DETAILED instructions please! :) Thanks in advance!

We let the builder build the house unseen because we had already signed the contract before we knew we were getting deployed. Because we had no choice whether or not to go to Iraq, there was nothing we could have done.

Take the cover off the Chime unit Located in your home, make sure the plungers the Bar looking things usually in the center of the unit move freely, if you have a digital chime try replacing your Transformer, usually in the Crawl space attached to or real close to the light underneath, If not their It may be in the attic, it should have 2 wires attached to it, but it is also tied into a 120v power source, if you find the transformer, TURN the circuit off to whatever it's attached to remove the old one *Note* How it is wired, so you don't mess up, try that first if not replace the Chime it's self, The Buttons outside Hardly EVER go bad, Just the light bulbs in them burn out.

When your doorbell or door chime doesn't ring, the fault could be in any part of the circuitry -- the button, the bell or chime, or the transformer. The transformer is the electrical component that Follow the Step. I hope that will be help others.

It could be a transformer or something as simple as the switch by the door. I would remove the cover on the switch by the door and short the contacts with a screwdriver. If it works then replace the switch. The transformer can be tested with a multimeter to see if 24 volts are present. For more detailed info go to the following web site:

hire a handyman that knows what he is doing. doesn't sound like you could follow the directions anyway if you let the builder build a house unseen
