I am petrified to fly, I hate it, but if I can't get there by land, there is no other choice. I have checked flights and can fly non stop on Iceland air to Heathrow. My question is, when is the best time to go. Iceland air is a little more expensive, and I like the idea of non stop, however, the flights for July and Aug are booked. Is it still lush and green in Sept to see the parks and gardens?
And for those of you that also hate to fly, what do you do to get mentally prepared. I hate the take off, ok once i get up there.

If you do decide to fly Icelandair, please re-check the "non stop" part of your planned flight .... all of the Icelandair flights from North America actually stop in Iceland on the way to London. It's a brief stop , but if you hate takeoff / landing, it's one extra thing to endure.

(Airlines are very tricky these days, calling their flights "direct" even if they stop somewhere along the way. For a true non-stop between USA and London Heathrow, check out BA, Virgin, United, American and Continental)

September in London is a great time to visit! The tourist hoardes have left and the weather is slightly better than the rest of the year. You may be interested to know that England always stays lush and green: the grass does not turn brown in the winter (it doesn't get that cold) and there's always plenty of rain to maintain the lushness!

Have a great trip.

Try looking at British Airways (www.ba.com), they have non-stop flights into Heathrow as well. I have flown with them to London several times and they are great. September will probably still be mostly green with a mix of fall colors, and as a plus if you go at the end of summer/ early fall, most tourist will be gone, you could also try for end of may or June. I wouldnt go in the spring because it will be raining most of the time. Just remember take off is over and done with really quickly and try to have something with you to distract you. Its all worth it in the end. ( by the way Kensington Palace and Leeds Castle have beautiful gardens)

There must be ships and ferries that you can book onto.
