Density is the Amount of Mass an Objects 'Contains' for its Size. The Formula is Density = Mass/Volume

For Example:

A Rock and a Peice of Styrofoam that are the same Size.

The Rock is Heavier because it has a Higher Desity that the Styrofoam. The Styrofoam is Lighter because it has Less Density, even though it is the Same Size as the Rock!

Daviate means that it Changes!!

Why do some things float in water while other things sink? The answer is density.

Pure water at 4ºC has a density of 1.00. Things that have a smaller density (such as most wood) float in water, while things that have a greater density (such as most rocks or minerals) sink.

density = mass / volume

By the way, you could use liquids other than water. Oil floats on top of water while vinegar sinks.
