There seems to be a lot of older people like 60 and older who have been widowed and they find a companion and they go away together and do things together but these couples say they cannot get married because of financial reasons. Is that true that if a woman marries her new boyfriend after her husband dies she loses his benenfits? Why that is so unfair.
Someone told me that these couples cannot marry because they would lose a lot of money and benefits but she said that if they go to church and join hands and say thier vows to God God would consider them a union? What is your take on this?
Are any of you in this position now and if you are how are you handling it and what can I pray for you for?

The couples that don't want to get married could have several reasons why they don't want to. If they had been with their spouse for 40+ years they may not feel right marrying again. Financially, they would loose Social Security and other benefits. When their spouse passed away they are still able to collect their S.S. so not only are they collecting their own S.S. but they are collecting on their spouses. So if they get married they would no longer have all four collections. Now lets think of the WILL and their children. Most do not want to have to deal with rewriting a will or taking away from their children's inheritance.
I really don't feel that God has much to do with this union because statistically people over the age of 60 may have sex once a year if that. The new partner typically isn't a romantic partner but a partner. They had spent most of their life with someone there with them and keeping them company and the new partner is just another person to keep them company.

I have heard of several eldery people dating and not marrying b/c of losing benefits. I havent heard of joining hands and saying vows, I dont think God considers them married!
I do have a few friends that did the right thing and got married even though they lost income b/c of it

This is very true. I've known married couples who have had to divorce after they turned a certain age so that they could get their benefits, too. And I don't think it's very fair, either.

think of it this way.
say each of them gets 800 in social security.
they get married she looses her money. you do the math.
but look at it this way, they aren't looking to have any kids so
most of them move in together and change their wills.
