Only if you have the skills to SURVIVE without becoming a beggar.

You need to be skilled in orientation, killing your food, setting a fire so you don't set your home on fire and perhaps making a HIDDEN home in a cave. Rangers do NOT like it when you mess with "Mother Nature".

Here is a test. Walk into your local forest with what you can carry on your back; matches, flint and steel, a LARGE knife (NO firearms because the FIRST shot will BRING EVERYBODY), a couple space blankets, a good compass, topographical map, some wood chips, couple pairs of GOOD socks, good boots, twine, couple coathangers, cranolla and WATER. If you are FIT limit the pack to 50-100 pounds and walk two days in, stay five days and walk out.

A friend of mine (ex-Army RANGER) used to find FUN in jumping out of a tree onto the back of a deer and cut it's throat; WILD RIDE and MESSY! Catch a rabbit in a snare and eat it ALL, bones are GOOD protein, snakes are easy. Here is a hint, you can eat a ton of bushes and berries; eat a SMALL amount and if you aren't hurling your guts in two-hours, have a banquet. FIND WATER, camp and enjoy the tranquilty and ambiance as your stomach does the Momba.

If you aren't trained, you WILL DIE and be a pain in the *** to all the people that come searching for you.

You REALLY do NOT want to do it without TRAINING and a HUGE pain threshold.

If you are REALLY serious, just address the issues and have a chilli dog and a beer.

Well, if you are serious here... then watch some movies such as "Jeremiah Johnson" and "The Wilderness Family" movies. But remember, that is hollywood and those actors went home at night. It sounds like a great idea. I'm sure we've all fantasized about "getting away" at one time or another, but realistically... take a remote vacation for 2 weeks. Then see how you feel.
