I always see women light skinned with long hair on tv. There are beautiful dark skinned women but I rarely see them on tv.
Am I the only person who feels this is wrong?

Because chocolate sistas are not the "ideal of beauty". So not true! Look at the lady from Ne-Yo's 'Stay' video, The lady from Gym Class Heroes's 'Cupid Chokehold' video, and Kelly Rowland. And to the poster above me: Halle Berry is not dark-skinned.

There have been some beautiful dark skinned women with short hair on tv....and in the movies. If you don't like what your seeing then start writing to the headquarters of the tv stations & production companies.

You are right. I am studying Sociology and Racial and Ethnic Relations, and I just read about this. There seems to be some ridiculously stupid psychological thing about the darkness of someone's skin color. I've read that the closer to "white" someone is, the more accepted they are. I don't know why that is. It's stupid if you ask me. The "hair" thing I think is just a fashion statement these days. Long hair is in right now. Wait a month or two, and it will be out! Beauty and goodness is not about what's on the outside; it's what's on the inside that matters. It's the media. Anyone who doesn't look like a Barbie doll is deemed worthless, and that would include me because I don't fit the "Barbie" mold either!

Because they don't fit the "Bubble Gum" beauty image that is fed to us daily. My man and I were just discussing the difference between "beautiful" women of the 90's compared to "beautiful" women of this decade. Seems that everyone has perfect breasts, perfect asses, flat tummies, small thighs, straight teeth, and so on. Well, dark skinned black women have never been viewed as the epitome of black beauty in this country, and I wouldn't expect it to be anywhere in the near future. Those beauties are just not part of the perfect american look.

Turn on One Life to Live. There is a beautiful dark skinned woman on there. I don't know what you are talking about. Unless you watch every single show there is, you need to research before making an statement.

I don't think anyone watches commercial television anymore, seeing how its such a redundant bore. But I have seen a television show from time to time and noticed light, med, and dark.

I disagree. I see a variety of blacks on TV. However, their roles could clearly be defined by how they look.

What are you talking about? There are plenty, unless you watch Full House or something.
