Is there a certain disipline that you really like or want to learn more about? I grew up riding reiners and cutters so out of high school I moved to the Fort Worth area and was a colt starter and loper for a cutter. I learned a lot and got to ride all the time. I also learned that I didn't want to become a trainer! It is very hard work and I just like to ride for my own pleasure now. But you could check out a certian event and find some trainers in your area and just call one up and say that you are interested in a job. They are always going to welcome a loper or someone they can count on. I know a lot of the hands I worked with came and went and the more reliable you are the better your chances of actually getting some nice horses on your list and you may have the possibility to show! I know the NRHA and the NCHA are are based out of that area and Weatherford is prime cutting country. Good luck and remember not to price your hourly rate to low, its hard work and a lot of wear and tear on your body.

My recommendation is to go online and pull up horse breeding farms and trainers in your area . Call and ask for an opportunity to schedule an appt to meet with them and see their facility. When there, if the horses seem content and sociable and the people are humble and kind, let them know that you are interested in finding work with horses. If they are not looking, tell them you'd appreciate any leads they might have to offer and for them to please keep you in mind if you might be of any service to them. BE HUMBLE. If you know what you are doing with horses, it will be evident. Horse facilities are cautious of people who think they know more than they really do because it can lead to accidents and lawsuits. Also, if they are goin' to hire you, they'll want you to do things their way and follow their rules. Be pleasant, believe in yourself (confident, not cocky) and appear eager and open to learning. Touch base with facilities every couple of weeks even if they say they are not hiring--- this way your face becomes familiar to them. Leave contact information with them. Be willing to do grunt work and volunteer work to prove yourself. Spring and Summer is a very busy, hectic time of year so you can do this! Good luck! (Trainer's often need help at shows... tacking horses and such).

Go to any Local stable on a late Saturday Morning with A Flyer Resume of your self stating your experience and your availibility and I so sure youll get a good response as well as haning them on a tackboard in the stable
Ask permission first of course, horses are a big Job and maybe even one of the stables will hire you
