Socks get smelly from wearing them inside closed shoes; the smell isn't the sweat itself but rather the product made by bacteria when they break down the sweat in anaerobe circumstances (with little or no oxygen). That's why bare feet don't smell, and why people who in winter take off their shoes & socks and cause half the room to pass out can still wear flipflops in summer without the same result -even though in summer it's warm and they sweat more. But yeah, if you wear socks in closed shoes for some time, and especially if you don't switch shoes allowing them to dry out completely in between uses, then you probably have smelly socks. That would include a good number of people at least in wintertime when sandal-wearers and bare feet are rare.

this is a crazy question but I am sure they do. The best thing is to not wear them, change them everyday like you do underware. Would you want to get caught in emergency with smelly sock, don't think so. Some people can't help it because they have atheletes feet or something but they have to change their sock 3 times a day and for a good reason. Take care Heather

This seems like a very serious question posted in exactly the right category, so I shall answer.

Yes.

I once had a roommate who wore NO socks, but her feet were smelly. Or perhaps she wore no socks and therefore her feet were smelly. Her shoes smelled so badly, we gave them their own closet -- the biggest closet in the flat. When the smell began to sneak out of the closet, we demanded that she store them outside, on the tiny window ledge that overlooked the street.

Who knew girls could be so disgusting? I've never known a man who smelled worse than Emma's feet.
