Let's not sink to the same level as the brainless type of anti-American Europeans. Unemployment in many European countries is extremely high, and the major continental countries are experiencing much worse deficit problems than the U.S.

But at the moment growth in the EU has been improving, though for most of them 2% GDP growth is pretty great shakes, whereas that would nearly be recession in the U.S. I believe the move to the Euro has helped them by reducing costs of capital.

In some pockets, such as Ireland and Denmark I believe, they really are experiencing strong growth in GDP and employment. The efforts they do make toward more free markets and free enterprise are to be lauded.

Of course, considering certain issues of, uh, demographics, population, and social obligations, in the long run Europe is deeply, deeply screwed.

In my opinion no, but it's hard to tell if you don't see it for yourself. You can never trust the media. I wish they are because I'm from Europe.
